Forest Friends — children's sneakers, cut and stitched by hand in our workshop in Bytom, Poland.

These are the shoes for outside the cloakroom. A reinforced heel counter holds the ankle where it belongs, the rubber sole insulates against cold ground and grips wet pavement, and two wide velcro straps mean a four-year-old can get them on and off unaided. The leather insole lifts straight out — rinse it, dry it, or take it out to check how much room is left as the foot grows.

Nurseries and kindergartens that ask for a proper shoe rather than a soft-soled slipper will accept these. They are just as good for the walk there.

Choosing the right size

Take the insole out, stand your child's bare foot on it and choose the size that leaves no more than 6 mm of room at the toe.
